from mouseion to museum 2022
The “from mouseion to museum” project was born out of Bo Kim’s art therapy internship experiences at medical settings in the United States. This project explores the relationship between mental health conditions and creative exercise within a multicultural, intersectional context for clinical professionals. This study utilizes an Art-Based Research approach, where creating visual images allows one to explore the position art-making holds within mental health therapies.
The researcher journals with her personal experience—interjected into ethnographic writing as a form of self-narrative—and explores the auto-ethnographic placement of the self within a social context. In order to investigate the impact of art practices on her personal exploration of the institutional healthcare system, this study utilizes aspects of the researcher’s identity to support her capacity for facilitating rehabilitation while working as an art therapist in an institutional framework.
